CellBlock FCS Announces Avelo Airlines has Selected its Fire Suppression Kits as part of Onboard Safety Protocol

STANDISH, ME AND HOUSTON, TX – August 31, 2021– CellBlockFCS today announced Avelo Airlines has selected its CellBlock LIBIK- Lithium Ion Battery incident Kit (LIBIK) as part of the airline’s onboard safety program. Partners in philosophy, CellBlockFCS and Avelo believe in providing the highest level of safety standards and service.

LIBIK is a full line of fire suppression tools offering a robust solution to a wide variety of battery fire situations in personal electronic devices (PED). Its unique effectiveness lies in the use of  CellBlockEX, an innovative new dry fire-suppressant media, which has been shown to extinguish a lithium-ion battery fire in seconds without the use of water or halon. CellBlockEX is comprised of a very lightweight inert mineral that poses no health risk and does not have a measurable shelf life or environmental impact.

“When we began our analysis of outfitting our aircraft with an advanced technology solution to protect our Customers, Crew members and aircraft, CellBlock quickly rose to the very top of the list. We needed a solution that not only met present day needs, but one that outpaced new technology that increased the contained stored energy in next-generation batteries. CellBlock met, and exceeded, our requirements,” said Michael Quillo, Vice President of Safety, Security, and Operational Excellence at Avelo Airlines.

“We look forward to keeping passengers safe and protected from the critical risk of thermal runaways with our safety conscious leaders, like Avelo,” said Matthew Vandemark, COO.

Avelo became America’s first new scheduled airline in nearly 15 years when it initiated service from its first base at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) on April 28, 2021. The airline – which offers a more convenient, caring and affordable experience – currently serves nine popular destinations across the Western U.S. Starting November 3, Avelo will also serve Connecticut and Florida with non-stop flights from its first East Coast base at Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), Fort Myers’ Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Tampa International Airport (TPA).

The CellBlock brand is trusted worldwide by airline crews, mining companies, battery recyclers, technology labs, hospital staff, transportation professionals, and more. The major component of their fire containment product line is CellBlockEX, an engineered dry loose-fill packaging filler that is revolutionizing the way the world safely handles, transports, and stores lithium-ion batteries and other dangerous goods. This environmentally friendly mineral granulate offers industries that utilize and ship various types of energy storage a low-cost solution with valuable safety implications.
